A Speaker’s Journey: Nashville Modern Excel & Power BI User Group

The same week I spoke to the Austin Texas Power BI and Fabric User Group virtually was the Nashville Modern Excel & Power BI User Group meeting. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they needed someone to present virtually that day.

I figured a door had been opened, and I had to take advantage of it. I found out as I was driving back from a group meeting that I attend early in the morning every week. One thing I had in my favor was that I could present the same session I did for Austin. I had spent many late nights reviewing the presentation in preparation for Austin. Since I planned on attending the meeting as an attendee, I had already made room in my schedule.

I am not going to pretend that I was not nervous. It was one of the first groups in Nashville I participated in. I had presented earlier in the year using just the laptop camera from a hotel since we had to travel out of town for an unforeseen family circumstance.

Due to the short time I had to prepare, I used the same BBQ smoker navigation scheme I had used for Austin. I made the joke that it was Nashville BBQ, such as Peg Leg Porker or Martin’s Bar-B-Que. It was in no way related to Austin BBQ.

I recommend checking out the Nashville Modern Excel and Power BI User Group. They have some great upcoming meetings.

Here is the link to my event on Meetup and the recording on YouTube.

The decision was much easier because of the wonderful people leading the group. I was looking for more practice presenting virtually, and when the opportunity presented itself, I was glad I took advantage of it.
